Martin Hlaváček

Member of the European Parliament (Czech Republic)

Martin Hlaváček was born on 14th January 1980 in Polička. He graduated from the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague and the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He attended several specialized training courses in Spain, Belgium, USA and Switzerland. Since 2015, he has been a member of the PhD courses at the Czech University of Agriculture in Prague, focusing on international trade. He is fluent in English, Spanish and French. He is married and has two children.After his studies, he started his professional career as a diplomat in Athens, Greece, and later at the Permanent Representation of the Czech Republic to the EU. He was Head of the Agriculture and Environment Department, involved in the negotiation of the previous Common Agricultural Policy of the EU and the priorities of the Czech Republic, such as the protection of local, traditional Czech products (the well-known trademarks Karlovarskéoplatky, České pivo and Olomoucké tvarůžky). In 2012 he was Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Czech Republic and since 2013 he has worked at Phillip Morris. In 2019 he was elected to the European Parliament to actively promote the interests of Czech and European citizens in the field of agriculture, food, fisheries and development.
